Our parish is involved in the
Australian Federal Government Community Visitors Scheme which provides volunteers who go into Residential Care facilities to spend time with residents. In most cases, volunteers are partnered with people who are lonely or isolated from their families, providing much needed companionship and support. We have a number of people from our parish who visit residents at Kapara, Charles Young and Murray Mudge Residential Care facilities. Visiting usually takes place on a fortnightly basis and involves one-on-one contact. Our wonderful visiting team is very cheerful and faithful, and their commitment is enthusiastically welcomed by both the residents and the staff of the various facilities. I believe the feelings are mutual, with visitors finding their friendships rewarding and enjoyable.
Would you like to become involved as a Community Visitor?
Many residents of care facilities are lonely and out of touch with family or friends. They would like to be able to spend time with someone who may share similar interests, or would like just to chat or read to them. Some residents are able to get about, so there could be other activities that you might become involved in together. Companionship is the key – helping to make someone else's life a little happier, and your own more fulfilling.

Applicants will be required to undergo a National Criminal History Record Check and adhere to the guidelines of the Community Visitors Scheme developed by the Department of Health and Ageing under the Aged Care Act 1997.
